C64 Ultimate Toolbox - Devlog

So I guess this guy is brain-broken over AI in Germany or something.

Now he’s harassing me on my reddit posts.

Hilariously, I brought this up to the r/c64 mod team and they decided that apparently I was the problem and ended up going back and removing my last post about my app from 11 days ago, the one with a bunch of upvotes and positive comments. So I’m assuming there is someone who doesn’t like AI over there on the mod team and is flexing their mod muscles against me. Man, I’ve never really experienced power-tripping subreddit mods before, but here we are.

The mod team removed my response to the guy, but not his original comment

They said his original comment is “statement of opinion” and not “targeted harassment”. I asked how is harassing me in chat messages, and then calling me personally “a bot” is not targeted harassment and they told me to drop it or risk getting permanently banned.

Man, the internet can be a really unfriendly place.

Ugh this is so stupid and fuck that guy. I’m sorry

I haven’t looked at this thread in a while.. so here’s my reactions in a list lol:

  • Dude! the app icon looks really good. I think I like the horizontal stripe version better but the angled upward version is cool too. Can’t you add icon customization so people can change the app icon between the different versions?
  • Pretty sick major nelson replied and said he’s sending it to the team??
  • That dude seems like an insane troll and bitter. Based on what he’s said he got laid off and thinks it’s cause of AI or something. Crazy that the mods are siding with him, he’s clearly harassing you.

I think part of what upsets me more about this is just that the outright hostility on reddit toward AI hadn’t been directed toward software engineers, but that this feels like a clear dividing line between when that was true and is no longer true. I think this guy going psycho on me, and the subreddit mods actually finding a way to penalize me more than the guy who was harassing me all day, is definite proof that reddit’s anti-AI bent runs super deep. I think this will be a problem for me in the years to come, the fact that I like AI among a society that has decided AI is the ultimate boogeyman, if I promote apps on reddit anymore, even if they are literally free, I will be running the risk of getting treatment like this simply because I use AI.

And needless to say, I am not the kind of person who is going to pretend I am not using AI to build things, just so people don’t hate me for it. So, yeah, I might not be able to share my apps on reddit anymore before long, I bet.

Thanks to outside contributors, C64 Ultimate Toolbox v2.0.1 has just been released, the main thing is that it lowers the macOS requirement down to macOS 15, so it’ll work for a lot more people now. Also fixes some other bug fixes and oversights.

Get it over here:
