I heard from someone who said that Life Saver has been their favorite screensaver for years and after reinstalling macOS recently, the current version would not work on their machine. I’ve seen this myself first hand and it’s been happening to people for over 3 years now I think.
So today I poked around and I saw that the Aerial screensaver project figured out how to use the new private screensaver APIs that Apple has been keeping for themselves. So I pulled down their repo and did some digging around with Claude Code and we got it working. It builds an .app that you launch once from your Applications folder and it installs the screensaver app extension so you can enable it in your settings panel… this is awesome.
Once I get this nailed down I can update Ealain, MultiClock, and uhhh, oh yeah, Last Statement, I couldn’t remember all their names at first…
